Welcome to Sonny Whelen Photography. Thank you for taking the time to view my work. Photography has helped me find joy and independence despite being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease nearly 20 years ago. With my website, I plan to not only share my imagery but also raise funds for the important work of the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

I hope that my imagery will inspire you and transport you to some of the beautiful places I have visited. My photography spans a wide range of subjects and locations, and I look forward to adding new collections as I continue my photography journey.

The images in the collections below are available for printing. Any prints that you acquire through this site will be produced free of charge by me and mailed directly to you. If you would like to order a print, please view these suggested donation amounts and make a donation below. Contact me with your desired print name and size. COLLECTIONS

Venice

Venice is a spectacular city that captured my heart and imagination.
I recently traveled to Venice twice in one year, because I couldn’t get enough of the beauty and history. Explore the collection here.

Reflections

The Reflections Collection involves subjects that can appear differently when reflected, usually changing the mood or feeling that can be evoked by an image. These pictures were taken over four seasons and are single exposures highlighting a reflective surface in the foreground which causes the images to appear upside down. Explore the collection here.

Motion

Similar to the Reflection Collection, the Motion Collection makes recognizable subjects seem oddly different than one would expect. These images are not due to multiple exposures or the introduction of special lighting, but rather, intentional camera movements during a longer than normal exposure period. Landscapes and Nature

Whether I’m in my own backyard or traveling the world, nature remains one of my favorite subjects. I enjoy photographing different perspectives, both sweeping scenes and close-up details. Explore the collection here.

Birds

Birds are wonderful subjects, often posing perfectly right outside my window. I enjoy photographing birds in a variety of settings and contexts. Some of my favorite images come from finding unique birds during my travels, while others are taken right outside my home. Explore the collection here.

ABOUT SONNY

My love for photography has taken many forms since I was young boy.

I began by using a simple Kodak camera loaded with black and white film shooting scenes around my backyard in Connecticut. I was in elementary school at the time and since then I have always found anything involving photography to be very exciting.

Over the years I have explored many interesting photographic subjects and techniques. My goal is always to use that inspiration to share my own excitement and passion about subjects to you as you experience my photographs. I hope you enjoy my work. Read my full bio here.

Photography has become even more meaningful to me as a source of joy and independence since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease nearly 20 years ago. 

Parkinson’s Disease affects nearly 5 million people worldwide and is a neurodegenerative condition which currently has no cure. I support The Michael J Fox foundation for Parkinson’s Research because it continues to lead the world by choosing the best places to fund the research that absolutely must be done.
